Mom Goes to New York

This weekend, my mom went to New York to visit her friend Cailin.  Cailin and Mom were good friends in college, but Cailin is going to school in England now, so they hardly ever get to see each other.  Cailin is moving back to England soon, so Mom knew that she had to go this weekend to visit.

Mom to the DC2NY bus.  It was four and a half hours long and she got to watch Tron!  She finally arrived in New York and Cailin was there waiting for her.  After they went back to her apartment to freshen up, they went out to explore the city.

They visiting the Irish Potato Famine Memorial and saw where the Freedom tower is being built as part of the 9/11 Memorial.

That night, they went to High Line Park.  It is a really cool park that they built on old railroad tracks, built high above the sidewalks.

The park is really long and narrow, so they walked along it for a long time, looking at all the plants and the views.  Mom tried to take pictures, but she doesn't have a tripod, so not many of them came out right.

The next morning, Mom and Cailin went to breakfast at Community Food and Juice.  They both had delicious Brioche French Toast.

Later that day, they took the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty!  They didn't actually visit or tour the Statute though, just drove by it and took pictures.  Mom said that that's the closest she's ever seen it.

After the ferry, they went to Magnolia Bakery.  This is the bakery that started the cupcake craze!  They both had a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting.  Yum!

After the bakery (and a little shopping in SoHo to work it off), it was time for Cailin to move, so she and  mom moved her stuff from Manhattan to Brooklyn.  Then they ordered a pizza and ate it on the rooftop of her new apartment.

In the morning, Mom had to leave early to catch the DC2NY bus back home to pick me up.  But when she got to the subway, the train wasn't coming!  She had to wait half and hour for her train to come and almost missed her bus!  She ran up to the bus as the driver was closing the door!  On the way back, she didn't get to watch any movies and just took a nap and read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

When she got back, I was so happy to see her!  I jumped up on her lap and licked her face all over!
I rubbed myself all over my favorite chair too, so it would smell like me again.

Mom says she likes DC better than NY.  She said it was crowded and hot and muggy there.  That's good because I'm finally getting used to living here.  I don't want to move again already!

  1. How did you like spending the night with all the other dogs??? Was there any little dog that you could snuggle with at day-care?

Looks like your Mom had a great time in NY. I'm sure she missed you a lot.
